The Party is Starting to Split

Rep. Charles Rangel is bucking the new Queen as she tries to push tax legislation through the House. Rangel, who with his 36 years in the House, has the political power to actually go toe to tow with her. Her proposal would increase taxes on half-million dollar earners.
Pelosi had said nixing tax cuts for half-million-dollar earners "might be more important to the American people than ignoring the educational and health needs of America's children."
But Rangel, whose committee handles tax policy, dismissed Pelosi's idea as unlikely to happen, since the speaker didn't bother to vet it with him in advance.
"Saying it to me in private is far more important than whatever she says nationally," he huffed, referring to her weekend TV appearance.
But that isn't the end of it either. While Rangel is a hard leaning leftist, he sided with Republicans who opposed her 100 hour agenda to push legislation through quickly. His main issue is not having any hearings:
Sources say Rangel went to Pelosi urging that his committee be allowed to review legislation allowing the feds to negotiate with drug companies over prices and taking away tax breaks for big oil companies - but she refused.
Rangel got around her by setting up closed-door committee forums that were essentially hearings anyway.
This is the true nature of the Democratic Party whose only concern is power. Rangel here is crying because Pelosi didn't run anything through him, and the Queen is pissed because she thinks she doesn't have to because she "has the power". Full story here.
Then there is also the freshman Congressman Steve Kagen, whose story of going to the White House has brought fierce criticism upon himself, for his outlandish tale of meeting Karl Rove, Dick Cheeney, and President Bush and Laura Bush. He goes on to call Laura Barbara and mentions that he learned that the best way to insult a man is to compliment him and then call his wife by another name.
“I said to my wife, ‘Honey, just follow my lead.’ She said, ‘Steven, it’s the president.’ I said, ‘Yeah, but he’s not any taller than I am.’ So the cameraman’s here. We’re introduced by a Marine. I said, ‘Mr. President , thank you for coming to Green Bay. My name is Dr. Multimillionaire. That was before the race. Now they call me Doctor Thousandaire. I couldn’t have won without you coming.’”

He said Bush gave one of his smiles and said, ‘I’ve lost a lot of money in my life, too.’ Then I go to his wife, ‘Hi Barbara, how are ya?’ I did that because I learned on the campaign that the meanest thing you can say to another gentlemen is, ‘he’s a fine fellow,’ and you then refer to his spouse by a different name.”
